1) Take a trip to your local Home Depot or Lowe's and head towards the HVAC section. Pick up some magnetic "vent covers" that come in small plastic packages like this. The ones I used were 15"x8" and included 3 sheets for about $4. According to SCCA rules, numbers should be no less than 8" high and letters no less than 4" high, so keep that in mind if you're buying something sized differently.
2) Print out the letters and numbers you need from this site. These numbers meet official SCCA size regulations and look pretty good, but are not as stylish as some of the more expensive magnet number sets.
3) This step is really dependent on how arts and crafts inclined you are. Basically, you need to use the numbers and letters you just printed out as stencils. Use the stencils and cut out the numbers and letters you need in whatever way you can fit them on each sheet.
Personally, I cut out the printed numbers from the site and taped them to the magnet. That allowed me to just cut around the stencil and made things pretty easy. The magnets themselves are fairly thin, so a nice knife would be another viable option. A large Exacto knife on a cutting board might be just as simple and easy.
4) Once you've got everything cut out, stick them on a refridgerator or some other large magnetic surface to store them. Because of how thin and fragile these pieces of magnet are, they will work best when kept perfectly flat and magnetized.
As seen in action..
